Common Knee Injuries Resulting
Frank J. Dito, Jr.
Knee injuries are a common source of disabling knee pain. You may experience a serious knee injury from many incidents, including slip and falls, sports injuries, car accidents and worksite injuries. No matter what the cause, a knee injury that results in disabling knee pain may entitle you to Social Security disability benefits.
Some of the more common types of knee injuries include:
- ACL Injury - where the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is torn; usually results from a sharp, sudden change in direction.
- Torn meniscus - the main shock-absorbing cartilage between your thigh and shin bones; if you twist your knee while bearing weight you may tear the meniscus.
- Knee bursitis - bursae are small sacs of fluid that cushion the outside of your knee joint; if they are inflamed they can be very painful.
- Patellar tendonitis - the inflammation of your patellar tendon which connects the quadriceps muscle to your shinbone.
