DSNY opens facilities for e-waste recycling
The Department of Sanitation announced Friday that it will be accepting e-waste at facilities in each borough in an effort to provide the city with more convenient electronic recycling options. City residents will now be able to drop of e-waste at the DSNY's five Special Waste Drop-Off Locations every Saturday and on the last Friday of each month.
WHEN AND WHERE
The Staten Island site is at 1000 West Service Road, in Travis. It's located at the foot of Muldoon Avenue, off the Muldoon Avenue exit of the West Shore Expressway, southbound. Each drop-off location will be open every Saturday and on the last Friday of the month, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Through state law, any Goodwill, Staples, Best Buy or Salvation Army in the area offers year-round disposal of the materials, with certain restrictions.
WHAT CAN BE DROPPED OFF
TVs, VCRs, DVRs, and DVD players; cable and satellite boxes; Video game consoles; computers: including small servers, monitors; printers and scanners; fax machines; small electronics: including tablets, mobile phones, MP3 players and laptops and accessories like keyboards, hard drives and mice.
Also, potentially hazardous items such as latex paint, fluorescent bulbs, mercury containing devices, motor oil, tires, rechargeable batteries, and car batteries.
