The Social Security Administration is planning to use electronic medical records to try to cut down on the disability claim backlog.

The Social Security Administration will receive medical records and clinical information from hospitals and other healthcare providers electronically in order to review each Social Security Disability case more quickly and efficiently.

Until now the Social Security Administration has been processing disability applications by using a paper based system.  They are looking to start implementing this process soon along with a separate process for collecting disability claim applications online.  They hope that the combination of these two new processes will speed up the time it currently takes to process the disability applications.
