New York has a no-fault insurance system, which has both advantages and disadvantages.  The advantage is that your insurance company will provide compensation when you are injured in a car accident, no matter who was at fault.  The disadvantage is that it is more difficult to pursue damages in a New York car accident lawsuit.

Since New York is a no-fault insurance state, there are certain types of insurance coverage that must be included in your policy, including personal injury protection (PIP).  This coverage provides compensation to cover your reasonable and necessary medical costs and lost wages, no matter who caused the auto accident.

Your auto insurance policy should also include collision, property damage liability, comprehensive, bodily injury and uninsured motorist coverage.  If you have questions about your policy, you should talk with your insurance agent who will be able to explain your coverage.
