PCB Levels in New York City Public Schools Investigated by the EPA

Below are the results of schools in New York City where elevated levels of PCB have been found. Please keep in mind when reviewing that there are over 1,500 public schools in New York City and not all have been tested as of yet. We will continue to add schools as the EPA announces the presence of high levels of PCBs.

Staten Island

  • PS 36 - Elevated levels found in two classrooms tested. Levels were 1,000 parts per million and 12,000 parts per million.
  • PS 53 - Elevated levels found in multiple classrooms tested (approximately 10). Levels were up to 260,000 parts per million in certain classrooms.

Brooklyn

  • PS 11 - Elevated levels found in multiple classrooms tested (approximately 9). Levels were up to 3800 parts per million in certain classrooms.
  • PS 13 & PS 358 (shared building) - Elevated levels found in five classrooms tested. Levels were up to 560 parts per million in certain classrooms.
  • PS 45 - Elevated levels found in at least 11 classrooms that were tested. Levels were up to 660,000 parts per million in certain classrooms.
  • PS 309 - Tested over 6 months ago. Results showed elevated levels of PCBs (not sure of current amounts though).

Manhattan

  • PS 37 - Elevated levels found in at least one classroom. Level was at 3200 parts per million.
  • PS 112 - Elevated levels found in at least two classrooms. Levels were 130 parts per million and 200 parts per million.
  • PS 199 - Tested over 6 months ago. Results showed elevated levels of PCBs (not sure of current amounts though).
  • PS 206 - Elevated levels found in at least five classrooms. Levels ranged between 95 parts per million and 7600 parts per million.

Queens

Bronx

  • PS 68 - Elevated levels found in multiple classrooms (approximately 11). Levels ranged up to 920 parts per million in certain classrooms.
  • PS 178 - Tested over 6 months ago. Results showed elevated levels of PCBs (not sure of current amounts though).
