Car Crash on Staten Island

A car crash at at tricky Westerleigh intersection sent three people to the hospital Wednesday morning. The crash took place at the corner of Maine and Bidwell Avenues at about 8:42 a.m.
Rescue workers needed to extricate a woman from one of the two SUVs involved in the wreck. An FDNY spokeswoman said three people were taken to an area hospital with "yellow tag" injuries after the crash. That's a triage term that typically means a person's injuries require further, but not necessarily immediate attention.
Bidwell and Maine are both one-way roads, though only traffic from Bidwell must stop at a stop sign. This intersection typically sees a crash every other month, but this past month has been particularly busy.
Councilman James Oddo vowed to bring up the incident with Department of Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan. "It's part of this whole 'slow zone' theres got to be traffic control devices in the area," he said. "It's a problematic area."
