The man was struck near the intersection of Hooper Street and Broadway in Williamsburg at around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2013. Officials said the man had the right of way. But, while he was being taken to Bellevue Hospital he died.
The man was remembered during Mass at Williamsburg's Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church, where he participated in the church's Bible study group. He also taught elementary school at the parish school for many years.
Their are new claims against a New York City police officer accused of hitting and hitting the teacher while driving an NYPD van. Witnesses reportedly indicated she may have been talking on her cell phone at the time. The officer reportedly refused to hand over her cell phone to investigators, who then issued a subpoena. At this point, the officer has not been charged.
