Scaffold Collapses on Hearst Building in Midtown Manhattan
Posted on Jun 12, 2013
Two window washers are trapped on a collapsed scaffold high above the streets of Midtown Manhattan. The window washers are trapped near the 45th floor of the Hearst Building at 57th Street and 8th Avenue.
The collapse began at around 2:40 PM. The FDNY has responded and may undertake what is known as a "high angle rescue." The street beneath has been closed.
The long, metallic scaffold appears to have buckled in the middle, creating a v-shape. The window washers appear to be on either side of the site of the buckling.
AT 4:22 PM the worker's have been rescued.
Emergency service Unit cops knocked out windows on the 44th floor and managed to tie safety lines to the workers, so even if the scaffolding completely breaks, they should still be safe.
