A Staten Island accident in New Springville involving a construction worker and a dump truck ends in one death. The incident took place at approximately 2:30 PM on Friday afternoon, November 20, 2009 on Richmond Avenue near Rockland Avenue.
According to police, Jody Resse, 53, of Tottenville, was standing behind a white Mack dump truck driven by a co-worker when the tragic accident occurred. Reese was crushed by the rear and then the front tires as the driver of the dump truck began to back the vehicle up. Reese was out of view of both side mirrors when he was crushed.
Rescue workers transported Reese to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze where he was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the accident.
The incident occurred approximately a few feet from the construction site where workers were preparing to construct a new portion of a street that will connect Rivington Avenue and Richmond Avenue.
The unidentified truck driver remained at the scene. However, he declined to talk with reporters stating, “I’m a little shaken up right now.”
The accident is still under investigation by local authorities. However, police indicated that the incident was nothing more than a tragic accident and there was no criminality involved.
