A Staten Island auto accident claims the life of one man and leaves two others injured when the car they were traveling in skids off the road and slams into a tree. The incident took place at approximately 6:30 AM on Sunday morning, January 17, 2010, at the intersection of South Avenue and Teleport Drive.

According to police, a white Cadillac Catera driven by a 24-year-old driver lost control and skidded off the road and slammed into a tree. Derek Moore, 22, of Staten Island, was a passenger in the backseat of the Cadillac.

Rescue crews transported Moore to Staten Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the accident.

The driver and a third 27-year-old passenger were also injured in the wreck. However, police indicated that both victims were expected to survive.

The Staten Island accident is still under investigation by local authorities. The cause of the accident has not yet been determined, however, police have indicated that charges are not expected to be filed against the driver.
