A shopping mom finds herself trapped following a Staten Island car accident after a sport utility vehicle (SUV) loses control and slams into a busy store. The incident took place at approximately 1:30 PM, on Sunday afternoon, December 13, 2009, in a Dollar Tree store in Mariners Harbor.

According to witnesses, the woman was waiting in line for the cashier when the driver of a Hyundai SUV plowed into the glass front of the store, pinning the woman. Her toddler son was in the shopping cart at the time of the accident. She was also with another young son that was nearby.

Rescue worker needed to lift and move the SUV in order to free the pinned woman. The unidentified woman was transported to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton and treated for unspecified injuries. Neither of the children were injured.

The accident occurred as stunned holiday shoppers stood-by. “You hear this crash and then I saw all this gift paper coming at us,” said Wonder Wiltshire, of Rosebank, who witnessed the crash.

There were no other injuries reported.

The Staten Island accident is still under investigation by local authorities. The driver of the SUV has not been identified and the cause of the accident is still unknown.
