Staten Island Car Crash

Posted on Jun 26, 2013

A 34 year old Grant City man admitted he was drinking a Four Loko before smashing into two park cars in Meiers Corner Saturday morning, according to a law enforcement source.

The man still had the empty can in his car when he crashed his 1997 Dodge Caravan into cars, a 1990 Volvo and a 2002 Cadillac, along Gower Street about 10:20 a.m. His blood alcohol level measured at .181%, more than twice the legal limit for driving wile intoxicated, and just high enough to merit the more serious offense of aggravated driving while intoxicated.

The brightly packaged Four Loko made headlines in 2010, with its 12% alcohol content, 23.5 ounce can size, and energy-drink ingredients including caffeine, guarana and taurine. That led to a statewide ban, and in 2011, the drink's manufacturers changed the recipe, cutting out all those ingredients.
