A woman crashed her car into the side of a Staten Island restaurant in the early evening. The restaurant, Fortune Garden, is located in Dongan Hills.
The unidentified woman was reported to be driving a 2006 Volkswagen Passat. According to witnesses and local police, the Passat was heading southbound on Hylan Boulevard and was attempting to make a right turn onto Liberty Avenue when the Staten Island car accident took place. The woman apparently attempted to make the turn from the middle lane.
The accident took place just before 6:00 PM on Wednesday evening, September 9, 2009.
No one appeared to be seriously injured, according to police.
The driver apparently made contact with another car that was driving alongside her in the right lane. The impact caused her Volkswagen to crash into the side of the restaurant. Fortune Garden is located at the corner of Hylan and Liberty.
According to reports, there was no structural damage to the Staten Island restaurant as a result of the car accident. However, two black scuff marks were visible on the building’s façade.
The driver did manage to crush some small plants with her car as well as run over a small tree. The Volkswagen Passat did knock over a political sign before finally coming to a stop. The re-election sign was for Borough President James Milinaro.
